Chairman and CEO

I founded my first online newspaper in 1991 — for my secondary school — on Minitel, the French precursor to the Internet. After a few travels (a year in the United States, HEC Paris studying Entrepreneurship and Bocconi University), and a bit more ambition, I tried to launch a European news magazine in 2004 — without success.

I was a strategy consultant at Oliver Wyman until 2007, then Marketing and Finance Director at Zoomorama, a startup in the online photography sector, for a year. I also co-founded Telos in 2005, a non-profit online media outlet bringing together economists and intellectuals.

I returned to journalism in 2008 by taking over EurActiv.fr, a free online newspaper focused on European affairs, which I ran for five years.

I founded Contexte in 2013, driven by the desire to create a sustainable economic model to produce expert, independent political news. We were eight employees then. Twelve years and 120 employees later, my role has changed a lot — and I think I love it more and more.

I am committed to helping independent media thrive, notably through Spiil, the Syndicat de la Presse Indépendante d'Information en Ligne, for which I served as chairman between 2015 and 2021 and where I remain a board member.

Declaration of Interests

Other professional activities that have led to remuneration or compensation since I joined Contexte

I am remunerated for my role at Contexte through my personal holding company, Mogaya, which I wholly own. Mogaya holds a stake only in one company: Contexte.

I have no consulting activities or any other remunerated activities for organisations within Contexte’s editorial scope or client base, whether personally or through my holding company. I occasionally receive remuneration for teaching in educational institutions (journalism schools, political science institutes, universities and business schools).

Ownership of shares or claims in a company that could be covered editorially

I do not directly own any company shares. A portion of my savings is placed in a life insurance policy managed by Milleis Banque and I am not involved in the investment choices.

Current participation in the governing bodies of a public or private organisation (association, companies) that could be covered editorially

I am a volunteer board member of the Syndicat de la presse indépendante d'information en ligne (Spiil). There, I take part in collective discussions on public policies concerning the press, such as equal treatment between print and online media, or the end of permanent direct public subsidies to the press. I place importance on ensuring that all positions defended by Spiil are made public. Spiil is registered in the interest representative registries of the European Commission and the French High Authority for the Transparency of Public Life.

Since 2021, I have also been a volunteer board member of Journalisme & Citoyenneté, an association that organises the International Journalism Conferences in Tours and Tunis.

Current volunteering roles in an association taking positions on public policy (advocacy) or regular donations and current memberships in a political party or union

I have nothing to declare in this area.

Elected positions and mandates

I have nothing to report. I prohibit myself from holding any elected position or mandate, as I consider it incompatible with my role as publisher of Contexte.

Family ties* with anyone having significant professional or activist activities in public or private organisations that could be covered editorially

I have nothing to report.
